Describe how you plan to use your time during the last month of school to meet the goal you've set for yourself for your Genius Hour. What can Mrs. Sutton do to help you meet your goal? We're going to have more time to make the videos we've been talking about, not to mention we are now training for a triathlon so we should have plenty of footage. I'm not sure how you could help us unless you wanted to go on a run with us, which we aren't opposed to.

Recently, many of you have noticed several new "views" to your Weebly pages. How does this change/not change the way you feel about the content on your page? Explain. Then express how you plan to both improve your page and further the work on your Genius Hour Project in the weeks to come. It made me feel pretty good that number of viewers increased, but it also only went from 1 to 11. I still obviously have work to do on my page, but we haven't posted a video in a while and I think that is where the views will come from. Pictures and videos are much more interesting and capture much more attention. If we post a good video we'll see more traffic on our sites.
Describe the author's interpretation of Genius and how it differs from conventional definitions of Genius. What are the shared strategies of geniuses? How does your Genius Hour project encourage you to use some of these strategies? The author's definition of a genius differs from the conventional definitions by creativity. The author says that a genius doesn't need to get a perfect ACT score to be considered a genius they just need to be able to think. They need to be able to come up with ideas and be able to apply these ideas to something of use. You don't have to be conventionally "smart" to be a genius. To be a genius you have to be a thinker, you have to access your creative side to spur an idea, then you must apply the idea, the ability to do both defines a genius. Genius hour encourages this because genius hour is nothing but creativity. You come up with your own topic and your own plan to fix the problem you observed. Everything is about what you came up with in your own mind.
How did you work over the last two weeks to address the five step plan you laid out in Blog Post #6? If you haven’t made progress, explain why. Be accountable. Explain how you will make the progress you need to make. We didn't do a whole lot, we didn't get around to make a video because of people being out of town and the diet page has kind of been on the back burner, but once we get rolling the web site will be better updated and there will be more videos. The videos will be focused on exercises and the diet page will obviously be more directed towards eating healthy and having living a healthy life.
What is your 5 step plan to meet your genius hour goal by May 6th? Our 5 step plan is as follows: research diet and excercise, make more exercise and diet videos, make more blog posts, update the Diet page, branch out to Woodland Elementary School. We don't have all the information on diet and exercise despite living healthy lifestyles. We are going to make and post more videos on staying fit, like different workouts or healthy meal choices. We'll update our blogs over the weeks to come, and I'm going to update my diet page. Finally the ultimate goal is to show our page and videos to the elementary kids and create a generation of healthy people in our town.
After watching Ken Robinson's TED Talk about education, express your thoughts on how his views do/do not relate to the concept of Genius Hour. What about Ken Robinson's views do you agree/disagree with? After watching Ken Robinson's TED Talk I have opened my eyes on just how much we revolve around standardized testing. College acceptance and scholarships are almost all based off an ACT or SAT test score. Our education system is based off passing these tests. There is no class that teaches us life skills and humanity we just learn how to pass tests. Rarely are there exercises that have real world applications. Occasionally in math and science classes there are word or story problems but that's it. I agree with what he has to say that we need to reform there needs to be a change of focus. Less standardized tests more arts and humanities.
I like that the Genius hour idea is all about you and you are in complete control. I agree with what the article has to say about kids being more involved in the project because it is everything they want it to be. They get to decide. It's really nice for a change of pace, it's much more creative and makes you think in a different way than traditional projects and assignments. It's a great brain activity and it should help students greatly in the future. I agree completely with the article.
Our biggest obstacle will be views for our videos I believe. I think that it will be hard to get kids to watch our videos, we will have videos on youtube but parents don't usually allow their kids to surf freely on youtube. We'll have to advertise to the elementary school or have teachers show them.
Describe what your Genius Hour Project would look like if you could make it the very best it could be.My Genius Hour project would be truly complete if I could learn and share what I've learned with the Upper Peninsula's youth. I will be learning throughout this project through research, along with experience. We want the young kids to be interested in going in the great outdoors, instead of sitting inside all day. There is beautiful nature all around us that isn't being taken advantage of. We want to make the community even more based around the outdoors. Most importantly though we want the young kids to be safe while doing these activities. We want to emphasize the importance of safety when doing these activities.
